Grant was born in Singapore in 1964 and was raised on a diet of Disney & other talking animals, which have constantly informed his work. He studied at Portsmouth College of Art. On leaving college he worked as a freelance photojournalist for the Guardian Newspaper group. After relocating to London Grant worked for the Financial Times as an editorial illustrator & cartoonist and was elected as a committee member to the Association of Illustrators.
Artist's Biography
Grant was a contributing artist on animated feature films for cinema & television with the Oscar winning British production company TVC which eventually led to him working for and thereby fostered an enduring dislike of Walt Disney.
He is a practising artist & a founder member of the Goodsway Group who became Cubitt Artists in the early 1990's where he was gallery director. He has works in private collections all over the world and has exhibited in Britain & Europe. He continues to show his drawings & paintings on a regular basis and has recently, as well as painting, started to experiment with wax sculpture. He has also returned to photography & filmmaking.
Grant is involved in museum & gallery education, including the National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, the Tate & more recently the Imperial War Museum where he now works full time. He has been artist in residence for the Barbican and in 2000 the National Gallery "Encounters" exhibition. He is also a tutor for the extremely successful & enterprising gap-year company, Art History Abroad, teaching art history, drawing & painting in Italy.
All of these experiences feed into his love of drawing & painting which he practices every day when he is not watching films by Akira Kurosawa, Japanese animation or reading Graphic Novels.
